Doctors

Dr. Lisa Abbott

Dr. Abbott has been a proud part of Family HealthCare Associates since 1999. She grew up in Arlington and attended Lamar High School. She then went to Baylor University where she received her degree in Biology. From there, she attended the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and later went on to train at John Peter Smith Hospital in the family practice residency program.
 
Dr. Abbott enjoys the broad range of problems encountered in family practice. She practices family medicine in the true sense of the word and enjoys her encounters with the many families she sees. She enjoys treating children and deals with women’s health issues on a daily basis. She also is knowledgeable in treating chronic medical conditions as well as acute illnesses and injuries. She performs minor surgical procedures. She cares for newborns as well as the elderly and enjoys all aspects of her practice.
 
Dr. Abbott lives in Mansfield with her husband and two children. She enjoys outdoor activities, gardening, and attending her children’s sporting activities. She is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mansfield. She has been a mentor for the area high schools allowing students who are interested in a medical career to follow her in the office. She is happy to be a part of a clinic in her community from which she can serve her friends and neighbors.

Dr. Frank de la Torre

Dr. de la Torre grew up in North Texas graduating from MacArthur High School in Irving. He attended UTA and began his medical education at Texas Tech University Medical School in Lubbock. He completed his residency in Family Practice in one of the largest, most intense programs in the country at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. He was selected Chief Resident during his tenure at JPS. He has been in Arlington for 16 years. He sees a large number of pediatric patients reflecting his commitment to children’s health. His practice encompasses many diverse facets of health care including routine care and acute illness in newborn and pediatric populations as well as adults, routine gynecologic and women’s health, dermatology and minor surgery, chronic medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, digestive, respiratory and other internal medicine issues, minor orthopedic and sports injury problems.
 
Dr. de la Torre lives in Mansfield with his wife and four children. He enjoys watching his children grow up and keeps a busy schedule helping his kids to all their events. He is a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Arlington. He has served as “team doctor” for Arlington Optimist football and Arlington Soccer Association. He enjoys teaching medicine to medical students and residents. He is a member of the American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, Arlington Chapter of TMS, American Academy of Family Practice, and the Texas Academy of Family Practice.

Dr. Karla Dick, DO

Dr. Karla Dick joined Family HealthCare Associates in 2008. She grew up in Houston and graduated from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas with a Biology degree. She then attended the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth where she graduated 10th in her class with her Doctor of Osteopathy degree. She completed her Family Medicine residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth and is Board Certified in Family Medicine.
 
Dr. Dick has practiced in a variety of settings including inpatient and outpatient medicine. She practiced for several years doing housecalls providing care for primarily adult and geriatric patients in the home setting. Dr. Dick also enjoys seeing newborns, adolescents, and all ages in her practice. She performs office procedures, joint injections, and manages both acute and chronic illness and injuries.
 
Dr. Dick has spent many hours volunteering her time at Health Fairs and other venues providing care for older and underprivileged patients. She has joined several Mission Trips to Mexico providing care to the underserved. She speaks some Spanish and enjoys practicing her Spanish with her patients.
 
Besides language, her other hobbies include traveling, exercise, reading, cooking, music, scuba diving, and participating in triathlons or other athletic events. She spends her free time with her family, nieces, and nephews.

Dr. Jerry Jennings

Dr. Jerry Jennings has been with Family Healthcare Associates since 1985, practicing in the north office. He enjoys the diversity of patients and medical issues that he encounters in family medicine. He enjoys working with patiens from the newborn period through childhood, adolescence, and into adulthood. He is especially interested in preventive care.
 
Dr. Jennings, a native of Cleburne, Texas, received his bachelor of science degree from Abilene Christian University, the Doctor of Medicine degree from U.T. Southwestern Medical School, and completed a residency in family medicine at John Peter Smith Hospital. Before entering private practice in family medicine, he served as an emergency room physician at Methodist Hospital of Dallas and at Arlington Memorial Hospital.
 
Dr. Jennings is a member of the Tarrant County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Society, American Medical Association, and a long term member of Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society. He is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.
 
A resident of Arlington, he enjoys tennis, music and fitness activities. He enjoys summer trips to the mountains for cycling and hiking. He also looks forward to winter trips to the tropics. European history and art/travel especially interest him.
 
Dr. Jennings volunteers at Mission Arlington medical clinic. He is passionate about his service on the board of Bread for a Hungry World, a charitable organization dedicated to assisting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of underprivileged children and adults around the world.
